Joseph Scovel Grateful Dead Collection – This Estate has no expiration date.
Joseph Scovel’s Grateful Dead Collection
For over 5 decades Joseph Scovel was a true Deadhead. After serving a tour as a paratrooper in Vietnam, Joseph began his Grateful Dead journey travelling to see the band in as many shows or festival venues as he could. He became family with many of the people attending these shows as well as band members. He was a proud member of this tightknit community. He was affectionately referred to as “the fudge man”, “banana bread man” or “cookie man” as he sold homemade goodies to the concert goers in order to finance his Grateful Dead travels. Joseph is remembered fondly for the Twinkle in his eye, his warm heart, sweet laugh and joyful outlook on life.
During the early 1980s, the number of Deadheads taping shows increased, and the band created a special section for fans who wished to record the show. These tapes are still shared and circulated today. Joseph was an avid “Taper” and not only saved the tapes he recorded which number over 4000 but he also saved the equipment used to tape the shows.
Joseph was an avid collector of everything Grateful Dead and amassed a large collection. His collection ranges from ticket stubs, backstage passes, posters, pictures and bumper stickers, to art work, signed memorabilia and much more. He wanted to share his collection with others who appreciate all that The Grateful Dead was and still is.
Over the next few months we will be posting much of this collection for sale so that others can enjoy these Grateful Dead treasures.
